THE DOUGLAS SIMONSON GALLERY ***

Douglas Simonson, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
This is a very large gallery of gay art, containing more than 2500 of Simonsons original paintings and drawings. As an accomplished figurative artist, he infuses his male nudes with character and ambience. The website is a bit confusing to navigate, but then of course, presenting such a large body of homoerotic art in an easy navigable way is quite a challenge. Nice art, and absolutely worth a prolonged visit.

I give it 3 stars out of 6.

DAVID GREMARD ROMERO *****

David Gremard Romero, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
Romero makes homoerotic art in an original and poetic vein. Ranging from paintings to pastels and drawings, I find his online gallery to be an exciting exploration. Erotic comics in charming pen and wash techniques and paintings of his friends as naked superheroes are just some of the pieces from Romeros homoerotic universe. Some of the earlier (?) work seems a bit uncertain anatomically, but on the whole a very charming and interesting visit.

I give it 5 out of 6 stars.

RAPHAEL PEREZ ****

Raphael Perez, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
This is a really large site with plenty of content. Perez’ art ranges from the humorously naive, to figurative paintings and some excellent photography. An adjustment in the site construction has made it harder to navigate than earlier, but all the same it is makes for a very interesting exploration. I like the naive paintings and the photography best, but there’s plenty of other art here to explore as well, including some touching paintings of earlier boyfriends. The site also has a large link index to other pages of gay art, making it a useful starting point for further exploration.

Had the navigation been better I would give it 5 stars, as it is it receives 4 out of 6.

DAVID W. HASKINS ***

Dawid W. Haskins, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
A very prolific artist, Haskins’ gallery of homoerotic art is a collection of the artist’s charcoals and pastels from 1995 up to day. Although the rendering of anatomy has been clearly bettered over the years, Haskins’ constantly has infused his erotic drawings with sensitivity all the way. A very nice (and very large) body of work on the whole, even though the similarity in technique and motif do make the gallery a teeny bit monotone after a longer visit. But absolutely worth a visit, if only for the poetry and sensitivity of his nudes.

I rate it 3 out of 6 stars.

Sabastian Moreno ****

Sebastian Moreno, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
Sebastian Moreno paints expressionistic paintings dealing with gay thematics. Quite interesting, I think, and rather unusual for homoerotic art. The paintings seems to deal with large subjects as love, death, life and power and makes the gallery very well worth a good browse. It is a bit confusingly laid out, but patience and some clicking around reveals a large and varied body of work.

I rate it 4 out of 6 stars.

Larry Hill Art ***

Larry Hill, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
Larry Hill makes delicate pencil drawings of a rather direct sexual nature. The elegant rendering make an interesting contrast to the rawness of the acts shown. Some of the drawings are quite beautiful, and all expertly drawn. Hill also exhibit his paintings, but these are of lower quality, and presumably earlier work. On the website you’ll also find a large collection of “Cocky Impressions” - very cocky indeed as they are prints of his friends erect penises, lashed with paint and pressed against paper. Original, and sort of beautiful in their way, but not everyone’s cup of tea, I suppose! Some of the drawings are available as prints directly from the website.

I rate this gallery 3 stars out of 6 possible.

Hilton Brown *****

Hilton Brown, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic art
Hilton Brown’s online gallery stretches a long way back, with paintings all the way back to 1959 and up to the present. The earlier work is abstract and geometric, but the later work make Brown earn a posting in the Gay Art Blog. He makes energetic watercolours full of expression, most of them is very good indeed. The web site is heavily flash based, and takes some perseverance to navigate. But the art is worth some work.

I rate the Hilton Brown gallery 5 stars out of 6.

Hideki Koh Online *****

Hideki Koh, gay art, homoerotic art, gay erotic artHideki Koh is a very talented Japanese artist. Even if his web gallery is only partly in english, and has a slightly cumbersome interface, it is very well worth a visit. Koh’s drawings are very good indeed. Some of them are exceedingly beautiful, even when they have a more disturbingly subject matter. The paintings are of a slightly more varied quality, but most of them is also very well worth the browse. The website also offers some of Koh’s art as free desktop wallpapers, and lots of information about the artist - mostly in Japanese I am afraid.

I rate the gallery five stars out of 6.
