Peter Arnold / Men Exposed ***

One should think that photographs of naked men, heavily oiled, should be rather boring and staid. But not necessarily so on Peter Arnold's site "Men Exposed", promoting his photo book of the same name. With an eye for abstraction and geometry, Arnold make the nude models appear as Mappelthorpian idealizations of men. Some of the abstractions are very beautiful indeed, the portrait are all quite good, but the plainer nudes look a bit standardized after a while. Well worth a visit, even though one is left with the question of how much of the men is real and how much was photoshopped.
I rate the gallery 3 out of 6 stars.

Jacques Sultana ****

Jacques Sultana is a french artist, painting very accomplished male nudes. Some of the paintings are so technically good as to be almost photo-realistic. That is fascinating in it self, and the subject matter make the paintings appear like private photos of a lover or dear one. Not bad at all, and very well worth a look. But in the length the gallery pales to just a parade of naked men, with nothing much more to them. I'd love to see some other work by the artist, though - he is very talented.
I rate the gallery 4 out of 6 stars.

Steve Walker Art ****

Steve Walker's gay themed art deal with the romance and longings of gay men. Men staring out to sea together, secretly touching, cutting each others hair - a strangely peaceful and evocative body of work. The painting technique could be freer, as it borders to magazine illustration on the earlier work, but on the the later work is quite good. A nice and interesting body of art on the whole, and well worth a visit.

Chris Komater ******

Chris Kromater has a very interesting portfolio of work. His art photography of the male nude really redefines the genre, making poetic and beautiful art on the way. The website is - a bit strange - but after fiddling about for a while, one sees that the interface actually matches the sensitivity and mystery of the images quite well. The photos varies from geometric compositions created from pieces of men and abstract soft close-ups to recreated renaissance poses by gay porn stars. The site also has a gallery of the artist's installation work. All in all a body of work well wort seeing.
I rate the gallery 6 out of 6 stars.

Paul Richmond's Artist Portfolio ****

Paul Richmond is a young American artist, with a very interesting body of work behind him. Even though his earlier work is more ordinary, the later paintings is very original and of excellent quality. His gay art is more about the feelings of being gay, about coming out of the closet, of questions of identity than mere erotic titillation. Quite a fresh voice, and I look forward to seeing more of his art in the future. The home page is only a gallery at absolutearts.com, I think that a web site specially created around his artwork would show the artworks to better advantage.
I rate the gallery 5 out of 6 stars.
