Ted Fusby ***

Fisherman

What can one say about the art of Ted Fusby? A lot of it is not very good technically, and the variation in themes between the artworks doesn't seem to be very large either. But. But. Taking a closer look at the artworks reveals their originality. Charmingly similar to children's books illustrations, the art is executed in soft watercolours and coloured pencils. The subjects are often touchingly portrayed, and looks like portraits of persons (ok - men) close to the artist, laughing, having fun, or looking shyly away. Not all pictures are of this quality, as some are quite trite, but the main body is actually quite appealing and interesting. Well worth a prolonged visit if you can bear with sorting the chaff from the wheat.

I rate the gallery 3 out of 6 stars.

Patrick Gerbier ****

cg9

The fine art photography of French artist Partick Gerbier seems at first to fall into the classical, "tasteful" niche of gay photography. Row upon row of photos of nude, muscular men that are graphically arranged in a photographic studio, shadow and light playing gracefully in black & white over their clean-shaved surfaces. Quite well done actually, but oh so traditional. But this is not all the truth about Gerbier's varied portfolio. His earlier work is a large series of mixed-media work, or to be more precise: painted photographs, where the artist in an expressionistic and original way seems to explore various facets of male energy and character. Well wort a visit!

I rate the gallery 4 out of 6 stars.

Chris Diedericks ****

Ganymede-and-Peter

The art of the South African artist Chris Diedericks is truly excellent. All the more a shame that the web design on his home page is quite unfortunate, as an all but unreadable font in the menu system leaves the visitor guessing his way around the sites messy structure - or leaving in frustration. But the art is actually well worth some hard work. Poetic and sensitive sculptures of male nudes and gay couples, intriguing collages, exciting concept art and delicate drawings is just some of the works of art you can find on the web site.A very talented and prolific artist, and I'd truly love to see more of his work presented in a more proficient way.

I rate the gallery 4 out of 6 stars, the art itself is worth a full 6, but as it is it's to hard accessible for the full mark.
